Personally, I am reluctant to implement syncing until something like these suggestions are implemented. It should also be possible to turn syncing off and choose to have the library reorganized according the scheme which would be in place if syncing had never been implemented. It should also be possible to export a collection organized and renamed according to the scheme which would be in place if syncing was not implemented. I suggest that in exporting or emailing, you also rename the file according to the scheme which would be in place if the syncing was not implemented. Nevertheless, I found that exporting a pdf produces a file with an obscure file name. The new “browse in finder” facility certainly helps. Of course it is tempting to use the syncing scheme via dropbox, but I am unwilling to have my precious pdf collection organized and renamed so it becomes inaccessible except throught the program. We have done things this way since Papers 2 which introduced annotations most of all because you could not resolve conflicting updates to annotations otherwise when syncing - for instance removing a note on one device and adding it on another is impossible to synchronise without storing the annotations in a richer form than what the PDF standard allows for. The documents can be exported with annotations embedded from File > Export (I realise this doesn’t really help with DevonThink in mind). Highlights and notes are stored in the library such that they can be synchronised.
